In the first part, you have to remember that you are dealing with equals and need to be compassionate to their needs and limitations. You should balance your communications sent to them without over-emphasizing on particular aspect. As you play a role of a guide to them, you should word your communication in a way that it creates an impact of assistance rather than a command.

In the second part where you need to encourage and motivate your team members, you are required to do all that

It is really easy to get your affiliates to get and stay active when they feel you and trust you. So you have to build on that trust early on by establishing yourself as a leader in this industry. Your profile should be exemplary. Lead by example.

Building rapport best is done by telling your affiliates about your short SFI journey. Tell them the good and the bad. Talk about your disappointments and your achievements. But most of all, let them know that you understand them.

I believe you can do this by displaying a caring attitude.

We all want to be loved, to be well thought of, to be appreciated and to be respected. If your affiliates think of you as a caring and loving sponsor that genuinely wants all her affiliates to succeed you will have no problems at all. You will most likely have a very committed and active team of affiliates.

Well how do you do this?

Right from the word go – welcome them. Let them know that you are here

I present myself to my new affiliates as an assistant, rather than as a boss. I send out a welcome message offering my assistance, and a link to subscribe to an email training course, and if I don't hear back, I send out another follow-up email. If I do hear back, I try to encourage them as much as possible, engage them in dialogue, let them know I am there to help them build their business, and ask if there are any particular areas where they might need help. Those who are serious about their business

I believe the secret to not sounding authoritative is two-fold. One will be in the tone of your voice (your communications) and the second would be to build a rapport gradually.

Do not keep repeating yourself over one issue. For example, we know that the Standing Order (SO) that your down line places gives you a commission of $7.95 and if you insist that the affiliate places a SO, it will create a forceful message. Let them decide what is best for them.

Being that SFI and TripleClicks is free to join and always will be, it is easy to acquire affiliates that just want to look around for a while and see if this is what they want to do or not.

As their sponsor it is easy to want new affiliates to become active as soon as possible not only for our personal business building but also because we care for the affiliates we are enrolling.

One of the good ways in which to encourage our new affiliates to become active

You will only come across as selfish if you talk about how you will benefit from their efforts. Make sure that all your communications are encouraging to your team.
How do you encourage? Praise any and all efforts by sending e-cards, putting up stream posts, instant messaging or via a personal email. Such praise wouldn't sound selfish or dictatorial as it is directed to your team member, and there is no mention of you at all.

When you get a new team member, send a warm welcome

Thanks for this question.

First, please recognize the fact that your down lines are not your sub ordinates. They are also independent contractors like you and they are in this business to grow, earn and succeed.

They are either introduced by your own hand or you got them through your Sponsor or you bought them or you won them in Auctions. In any case, you are their Sponsor

As their Sponsor your duty first and foremost is to establish trust in their minds that you

Well, you should probably try to come to them as a friend who is giving them a few pointers,
and don't forget to get in their shoes.

How was your sponsor giving you pointers, how did you feel about it.

Give your PSAs and CSAs a reminders which are polite.

For example: Don't tell them, you need to do that and that.
Tell them that The best way to get something is ...that and that.

Make sure you know what you want to hear from your sponsor is

Good leadership is selfless and persuasive rather than selfish and dictatorial
Followers can easily sense tendencies of a leader coming across as demanding for selfish interests rather than those of the people being served.

The sponsor cannot force the affiliate to stay at SFI as that is neither guiding nor helping. It is better for the sponsor to adapt a friendly approach that involves listening first.
Take an example of say advising your affiliate on
