* Reflect on your weaknesses in the past year.

* Ponder over the affiliates who are not active, which region do they come from, for how long have they been inactive and what incentives can you provide.

* Talk to your up line support team members who have reached higher ranks within the same period or less than what you have achieved during that time. How have they overcome hurdles if they have faced any. This is vital to your business.

* Discuss and form a plan of how you will invest in new recruits, that is your time, finances, efforts

* Formulate a strategy for rewards to your down lines who are willing to move forward with you

* Communicate regularly, if last year you did not send out any e-cards, these are very motivating, make sure you include at least 1 e-card for your active members as well as those who are not, send them a regular e-mail.

* It is not always necessary to talk about SFI; share your experiences with your inactive members. Make some light reading - SFI already sends out heaps of details to affiliates, you do not need to repeat.

* Focus on generating Sales at TripleClicks, this is one of the most lucrative business which most people shy away from because they think it is just selling. Understand that you are developing relationships with people and in the process and they will bring in commissions. Expand your business into various sectors of SFI.

It helps to create an overview of how you performed in the past year and then compare your efforts with your results. Your income will be one indicator of your performance so if you have earned $1.00 on your personal VPs in the past year, it is time to see how you can earn $5.00. It is essential to keep up with everyone in your team, both active and inactive affiliates.

Gifts, any kind of them are very instrumental in making people feel good. They lift up your spirits when you are down, they encourage and motivate. There are however certain cultural barriers that govern the giving of gifts and how they are interpreted. Again the "value" of gifts is also important in determining the meaning of that gift. It is like the color of roses and what they mean for the giver and taker!

Having said that we have to be very careful what we are offering our new affiliates.

On many occasions, I have been surprised by a gift certificate from my upline when I have reached a milestone in my SFI business. This made me very happy that my upline acknowledged that I had worked independently so I deserved it.
I have in turn given out T Credits as well as Gift Certificates to my team members for having worked hard.

You will note that there were no welcome gifts in my experience - the gifts all came in after I proved to be a worthy worker.

Both T Credits and Gift Certificates, in my view make excellent Gifts for your new team because it serves a two-fold purpose - it recognizes your workers and makes them feel valued. In turn, you would want to believe that it also encourages them to perform better in the future.

Sometimes gifts cannot be tangible or have a financial value, all the same, their real value cannot be underestimated. Words of encouragement, Thank you e-cards, Stream posts highlighting the achievements of your team members or Forum Posts acknowledging special milestones are great ways to appreciate.

In conclusion, I would suggest that you use your discretion when giving out gifts to your new PSAs and CSAs. Whether your team members have just joined you or they have been with you for over 1 year, T Credits and Gift Certificates would be my choice of a great gift.

Take up any multinational, corporate, professional firm or a successful business and ask the Chief Executive Officer where they started off their careers or business! You will hear one answer and that is common to all. It is at the bottom. They all started off as trainees, had apprenticeship and worked in a business that they later left to start off on their own. This is leading by example.

You never ask your workers to do what you do not know how to. This is the meaning of "leading by example" as I understand it. This is an important lesson to learn when building your business and this means that if you are not prepared to undertake the following tasks, do not expect your PSAs or CSAs to follow you.

* log in daily - show the commitment to your business with your action. Maintain your daily VP Streak

* ask questions when you do not understand because this is how you will learn, participate in the Forum - hear what others have to say. There is a world wide web on the Forum. Make use of it.

* taking actions by participating in the competitions that SFI organizes means giving yourself a chance to win; winners never get unnoticed and your name in the winners' list is motivation for your PSAs and CSAs.

* your attitude will drive your team so demonstrate it in your encouragement, communication and enthusiasm about the business - your down lines will notice this.

The other pertinent details about your progress with SFI is shown in the various badges you have acquired over time and this speaks volumes about your dedication and commitment to the business. Any of your PSAs or CSAs who get to see your SFI Snapshot can immediately tell how well you lead your team or your lack of interest in the business.

The concept of earning online is new in my country and most of the affiliates who come to my team find it difficult to understand many aspects of the business and how the versa points are converted to cash. In the majority of the cases I have come across, people ask, "So what do I have to do to earn". However, the main challenge affiliates face after joining is to build an active team.

Joining thousands of affiliates to SFI is an easy task but it is to find active affiliates that creates a lot of concern. This easily leads to de-motivation and inactivity and the need to invest in the business or make an effort to see it as a long term earning opportunity is no longer appealing.

To overcome this, I find myself constantly having to provide my own examples and experiences that have helped me understand the SFI concept better.

- I maintain an active Phone Chat group where affiliates encourage, motivate and stimulate other affiliates to understand that such struggles are part of business.

- I also talk to the affiliates on a one-to-one and explain the various options available to them to recruit new affiliates regularly.

- I pick up discussions from the Forum where the affiliates may not be active and circulate them via email to encourage them.

Communicating with your affiliates and keeping in touch remains one vital aspect of being able to overcome this common problem. Affiliates need assurances that they are not alone in this struggle and that the team is always there to support them.

The SFI business is rather challenging but when it comes to communicating with your PSAs, there is a huge potential as to how you can talk to them. You must keep in mind that it makes communicating a lot easier when you understand the circumstances of your PSAs under which they are working with you.

1. I have a Whatsapp group of my team members who include my PSAs I feel this gives them encouragement when they hear about other team members' experiences. This group has a day to day "what's new" kind of vibrancy which enhances rapport and gets the PSAs to understand the deeper concept of the business from other member's point of view.

This is useful for both new PSAs as well as those that have been in the business for a while. The group builds up and we are well informed. Whenever I add a new PSA, I notify the group and this starts off communication with others too!

2. The personal SFI chat system allows my PSAs to be in contact with me at any time they are online and if they have a question, if I am also online, its ideal to answer their questions immediately. Or if I find I need to convey a message to them, I have the freedom to do so. They can view it at any time later when they log in.

3. The stream is also helpful though it may not be ideal for a new PSA who is learning the business. He/she may not feel comfortable to see messages that are personal and relating to the PSA in the open.

4. Email is another excellent option you can adopt with new PSAs though this requires that the PSA does not have immediate replies unless you have answered them immediately. Skype, may also prove to be handy though it depends on the PSA and if they have access or may not be able to use this in some cases where there are great time differences.

SFI already provides so many options that it is best to see what suits your PSA and you will learn the various communicating preferences from your new PSAs as you interact with them more. Do not have a rigid rule but adopt and adapt to each one's requirements and needs.

There are many reasons why affiliates join and leave and I would like to list some of the main reasons for their premature departure from the program. This will help us understand better how to retain them.

Why do they leave?

1. They do not understand how "points" are converted into "cash"

2. Those international affiliates whose primary language is not English, have difficulty comprehending the concept of building a team and how that will generate an income. The rest of the details is irrelevant for them. It seems too much of a chore to find out more.

3. For some who are looking to receive immediate benefits, are disappointed that this scheme is not a quick-rich one where you can rely on a monthly income when you have no job.

4. It is common for affiliates to join without having any support from the Sponsor and they feel let down. They believe that it is the responsibility of the Sponsor to guide them. It is a psychological set-back for them to be in business and not have a supportive Sponsor.

How do you retain your new affiliates?

This is very similar to having customers. Getting customers is probably easier than retaining them (where you must work harder). Joining new affiliates and recruiting them is probably a lot easier than retaining them to become active in the team.

You have to follow simple rules and these are defined by your personal commitment to SFI.

- Communicate with your affiliates, be there for them even if they do not need help;
- Build a relationship with your affiliates, develop trust and show your progress to them;
- Do not assume that they are capable - ask if they need assistance;
- Provide them with information that will help them make decisions regarding their business
- Go the extra mile. Help also means boosting their morale, confidence and giving them incentive to move forward.

3. The Forum

Different people process information differently and for this reason, I find the Forum a huge learning medium - experienced affiliates and others who have a lot of knowledge about online marketing can help improve your leadership. I find that in my my day to day business, I rely on it heavily to clear my doubts. Your questions can also be answered by the Founder of SFI and this interaction enables you to make quick decisions without waiting too long for a feedback.

4. By example

We are often reminded through various announcements that you cannot ask your team members to undertake a path that you are reluctant to commit to. When you are serious about SFI, your team will see this and they will follow on your path.

Overall, it comes to making sure that you are there to support your team and motivate your members to follow their goals and ambitions. Working with a team to coach your team members, help them achieve and feel good about the end results - Success!

Many times when I have written emails or notes to friends and clients, they often reply to say that I have been very positive in my outlook though I do not think that, that is what I was conveying.

Communications with your Designated Diamonds must be as powerful as your intention to get them to achieve their goals. These are the people who have chosen to lead not only themselves but showcase their leadership skills to their team members. Everything must have a positive outcome, a positive attitude, a positive solution.

Your Designated Diamonds have accepted the challenge you have provided to them and you must therefore give them some incentives - create short term goals first. If you have 5 affiliates who are EA2s (Executive Affiliates who either have a Standing Order or have been EA for 2 months in SFI), you need to show them that you care for their well being and I would suggest these steps to not only encourage but ensure that they will move with you to the Top.

a) Set a competitive spirit within the group, use your Genealogy to filter your Designated Diamonds and keep making sure through your team mail that they have not side-tracked. A competition for them to reach the next level of leadership would be a good start.

b) Give away gift certificates to them or reassign affiliates to boost their morale

c) A regular skype call or video chat would really get things off the ground because now you have a visual contact and that helps in establishing a rapport.

d) If your affiliates are in the same region, a cup of coffee and a general discussion would indeed break the ice and help you understand your affiliates better.

e) Remember your team members are your business partners and you must be able to establish a professional relationship with them without discrimination.

f) If you can, talk over the phone - this tells them that you are making sure that they are being looked after as best as possible and this is your priority role as a Sponsor.

Be mindful of cultural differences, language barriers and other hurdles that can create a conflict if not addressed in the right manner. Do not take your affiliates for granted, appreciate them and they will support your business. They do not have to be DD to support you, they will do it without any pressure because they know the value and potential of an ongoing business that will generate valuable income for them in the future. You have to show them through your experiences!

The best thing I like about SFI is that it gives me the freedom to pursue what I enjoy the best and still offer multiple income streams. This flexibility is what makes your online business unique from others you may have come across.

I would not want to give you an answer that would seem rigid for other affiliates reading this. There is no specific rule in any business which guides you into believing that if your area of expertise is recruiting PSAs, you should not concentrate on bringing new PRMs.

"What are you good at?" would probably be a question you should ask first before trying to analyse which recruitment is better or more lucrative. Again, here I would like to share the relationship of this question to the crops a farmer grows. He has crop A and crop B that give him excellent harvest and financial returns but I am sure he has a crop C that is seasonal so he does not rely on it as much as A and B. However in case there is a problem in the harvest of A or B, he has a contingency plan with crop C that he can market and rely on for alternative income.

Similarly recruiting PSAs and PRMs would follow a similar principle. If you can manage doing both, excellent. However, you do understand that the commissions you will earn from PSAs are reliant on how active your PSAs are.

- Do you have a guarantee that 100 PSAs you recruit in one month will all become active immediately they join. If the answer to this is Yes, then focus on recruiting only PSAs. However, if this is a No answer, then you need to rely on your PRMs simultaneously because their sales will impact positively on your income.

- Alternatively the same applies to PRMs, if you recruit 100 in a month, will you receive sales from each of them in one month. This is hardly likely to happen unless you have a period like Christmas and people go crazy shopping!

Try to create a balance and do what you are best at. Develop yourself, experience the ups and downs of a business and understand that you can focus on both types of recruitment provided you are aware that you need to lay a strong foundation for your business and this means long term relationships with both your PSAs as well as your PRMs.
