This is a great question but very difficult to provide a single all encompassing answer fits all. It really depends on the type of person you are and what makes you unique so you can leverage that uniqueness to server as a benefit to your downline. Be yourself and focus leveraging your strengths.
Now, there are two things too understand with this question or it will drive you bonkers trying to keep them to find out that they just quit.
1st. You cant make anyone do anything they already decided is not for them. You should not look at team building as what you should do to keep an affiliate from quitting. That is counter productive and actually a waste of time and effort. Don t chase after people that show no or are lacking interest as you need to divert your energy to the flip side which I will touch in a second. For those side liners that sit or take no action or doubt or impose self limiting beliefs, just continue to send your weekly or monthly communications. That is all you can do.
Bottom line you cannot win and you won't win everyone so don't bother wasting time.
2nd - if you have to convince someone to not quit then they are not likely the person for your team, AT THAT TIME. This does not mean they bad people or they won't show up later. The point is it is not the time for them so they won't be useful to you if your always playing the convincer. Don't convince, but, rather let them come to you with zero doubt. The opposite. They know you can help them achieve their goals. So they chase you.
So, the real solution to this is don't try to keep people from quitting but rather do things that make them want to stay or rather want to be here. They are here not because you had to pull their arm but because they truly want to be here. That is the KEY,
How do you do this? Easy. Be an awesome sponsor. Be yourself and follow the rules of success and follow the ones who are successful and duplicate them. What are some of these traits?
Communicate , communicate, communicate! Should I say it again? Sure....Communicate. You must communicate and next, LISTEN to your downline affiliates who show interest. Ask probing questions like why they are here what is it they want. To achieve. Etc.
FIND THEIR PAIN POINTS. Everyone of us here has a reason for being here. They are looking for someone or something or a solution to their problem. Be that person to emphasize and provide that solution via the SFI basics and rules of success.

-->> Treat your downline like they are your life line.
-->> Don't just email but have team meetings, webinars, Skype one on one.
-->> Show them that you really do have a keen interest in their success.
-->> Push them to do things but help them in times of crisis where warranted.
-->> No one is perfect and all of us have a bad day or month.
-->> Issue a TC gift cert to help someone make EA2 one month if they are proven action takers.
-->>Lead by example and show them by revealing your leadership page.
-->>What you do and your badges speaks,everything.
-->>Train them to teach their downline the same.
-->>Motivate them as they require it. Daily, weekly etc. Provide the spark get their rockets firing.
-->>You control your every move and everything you do in a positive way to help others will attract affiliates to you not you chase them.
Do this and you won't need to convince anyone and the total opposite occurs. Your affiliates will gravitate to you like no tomorrow.
