You have to understand that it is disappointing and can be discouraging. Acknowledge that and do not ignore it. DO NOT tell them to build a bridge and get over it, it will not do any good. Their disappointment shows their commitment.
Do not have sympathy with them because sympathy sends a message that they've shot themselves in the foot and that it is the worst possible thing to do.
Show Empathy for your affiliate by making them understand that you understand their disappointment. Once you delay that message you have to step up and become the positive voice of reason. It is not the end of their business. It does not mean they can't build a successful business. It is just a stumbling block on their road and giving up is not the way to go. Motivate them to overcome it. Nobody achieves great success by never making mistakes or never failing at something. The difference is how you use it to your advantage. Learn from it and help your team to not make the same mistakes. You only fail if you give up.
Let me tell you - I fell out at the 2nd last stage. I also missed my 2nd chance to get back into the competition. My class position today? No 6. I am aiming to the no 1 spot - even without the rewards. Because I did not make it - 2 of my PSA's made it and stayed in the competition - I knew why I fell out and made sure they did not make the same mistakes.
Lastly - SFI is full of surprises. You never know what is waiting when you log in. I did not get a fast track badge when I started - I have one now! Thank you SFI.
