Hi Mary,
This is not a simple "Yes or no" question. There are a few facts to be considered before giving advice to your PSAs.

First of all, do they have a team? We all know that being a team leader without a team is like a school teacher without students. Does someone still wants to become a TL, attend him to the next issue.

Stay team leader without a team is not easy. They have to be able to relay on there own sources. Can they, will they?

So my advice

Both encouraging and discouraging our PSA to become Team leaders right away is not the right approach.

Here is why.

It is self serving to the sponsors to keep on encouraging their PSA to become Team leaders if they do not have team yet. It is expensive to maintain Team leadership if you do not have a team. You need to buy a lot of TC to reach the VP needed to become a Team Leader. So the beneficiary here is the sponsor because he earns big commission in the expense of his PSA.

I would not advice it. They would lose interest in the business. If they make EA their first month, they should be encouraged to read and learn about SFI.
- They should be taught how to make PSA's of their own almost immediately and learn how to train and guide their own PSA's.
- They should be taught how and what answers to give to questions asked them by their PSA's
- By their second month, they can go for BTL.
- With each experience, they become more sure of themselves and

Discourage? Never.

I might end up telling them to be patient and learn a bit more before, but if they are eager to become real Teamleaders and building up an active team, I'd do my very best to support them.

There's the catch to it: Real Teamleaders.
As long as they do not understand that a Teamleader needs an active team under them that they can support and mentor, they are not ready yet for this task and it needs more patience and mentoring on the sponsors side.

I would say no.
Why? Because they loose interest to fast if they do not earn an income immediately.
I encourage them to at least become EA in the first month while learning and reading all they can absorb about SFI and its inner workings.

In month 2 I start encouraging to become BTL and remain BTL for at least 3 months while training and supporting their down line. This way the team as a whole is better trained and well informed.

I have found that PSA's that

This is my personal opinion.
Discourage may not be the right move. But instead explain to them that their success tied up directly to the success of his/her team. My observation all these while, there are affiliates that attained STL/GTL/PTL in their 1st or 2nd month. They got so excited but next, they are back to EA2 or BTL, why?

The system set up by SFI in such a way that you have to learn to master the business to be successful. Becoming a TL in such a short period, I think

Hi Mary!
That's good question that every leader must ask him/herself. I'm a positive thinker. I like doing things positively. Rather than discouraging them I rather encourage them not to be Team Leaders. They say people are like fingers. Meaning that they are not equal or the same. There are fast learners and slow learners. There are people who can afford Standing Orders and those who can't, etc. As a Leader you must know your people. As a Team Leader, you encourage your people the differently.

Mary, I think you stated your question wrong because I believe you know that we should never "discourage" anyone at any time.
I believe you really meant to ask "How can we remind our PSAs that good, effective and PROFITABLE team leadership means THEY must recognize the rate of development within their groups and understand that some people, for one reason or another JUST CANNOT grow as rapidly as others."
Of course that means they must actually answer the questions

I would hate to use the word discourage as it is a negative, rather guide can be used towards an affiliate that is eager. The hard part is to figure out which affiliate is going to be able to become an executive affiliate two months in a row. Once that is established I encourage the affiliate to build a solid team before striving to become a Team Leader, or they can become discouraged by all the inactive affiliates that do nothing on their team. I encourage positive thinking by stressing that this
