You have be honest and explain to him/her your feelings when you started to make your first small commissions and how you kept working hard and did not quit.
Also share with them anything that you have learned and used to increase your commissions .
I would reply to them as though you were speaking to a friend in the same room. Explain that you want them to do well and will support them all the way but they must understand that no business is built overnight and they need to work hard for a few months to build momentum.
I advise my affiliates that they should study all the marketing resources available, familiarise themselves with Tripleclicks and how they and their downline can benefit from it and if they follow all the advice then there is no reason why they should not be in profit.

That is a great question! I know because I have just been there. What I needed the most at that time was a encouraging word and be reassured that what I did in the previous month was indeed a good start for building my business.
Don't speak the negative--like "don't quit" or "Don't give up"--that's planting seeds that wont bring a harvest.
Let them know that they are among the 2% who have what it takes to succeed because what they have done is a great start to building a business.
If they truly put forth that kind of effort and you know it--reward them with something, anything, even sending out a notice through A2A (that they will see) about their good work.
I do not think that right at that moment they should be reminded to read "the basics or the launch pads." You can follow up with that kind of stuff later. Right now they need encouragement and reassurance the most.

Focus on the positive, they HAVE received a commission. It proves the system works. So they are doing all the right things they just need to keep on going and then teach others to do the same. Congratulate them on their efforts thus far, and tell them to keep up the good work. Their commissions will grow.
Like any business you start small and build bigger. Yes there will often times be alot of work required - but the rewards and worth it. As your downline grows exponentially what you are earning now will also grow exponentially, and then you will wonder how you earn so much every month for so little effort, and you will thank your lucky stars that you kept on and didn't give up
I actually had this experience with an unhappy affiliate, so I can sympathize with you. However, this is how I responded to the affiliate:
"When I first started, I earned a little as well, but each month, I am making more and more. It is discouraging at first, but it is important to find at least four affiliates that are willing to duplicate your efforts and get to EA status each month. It is vital that you find a way to become at least a Bronze Team Leader to start seeing the income potential of SFI. The matching VP on ALL EA2s in your downline up to 6 generations deep really adds up to lots of TripleClicks pool shares if they are duplicating your efforts. In addition, the TripleClicks direct commissions will increase as well.

What many fail to realize is that your commission is based upon SALES yes you can earn something by accumulating VersaPoints, but to INCREASE your sales as stated in point two of SFI BASICS, you have to make sales at your Tripleclicks store. You need to promote products that can be put on Standard Order such as IAHBE and Veriuni Advanced Liquid Nutrition. Lets say you have these two on Standard order. Say you have 10 customers ordering these products, what would your commission be for IAHBE each month. For IAHBE you would have a commission of $76.70 and for Veriuni Advanced Liquid Nutrition $82.10 for a total of $158.80 IN COMMISION for these products and this does not include your Executive Pool commission. And with making those sales your would be a Platinum Team Leader from the sales of those products. And you will received all the benefits which would increase your commission exponentially. So the key in getting a good commission check is TO MAKE SALES AT YOUR TRIPLECLICKS STORE. And in training your team to do the same. Ask the new affiliate if they have done what is required to get a bigger check. Help them to see that their are many ways to earn with SFI but you need to take action to see results.

I got my first commission payment 2 days ago--and it opened my eyes. It has shown me that I need to shift my focus away from sponsoring and much more onto the Tripleclicks auction aspect of the business. I now concentrate on placing ads (and banners) that feature Pricebender auctions and potential customer/clients using the "garage sale" angle, on free and inexpensive online sites. I plan to rotate these ads between sites.
Now, I know that generating an income in SFI will *NOT* come quickly, that I need to project a minimum of six month or more. And virtually ALL of THAT income will have to go back into the business as purchases to increase my VP balance and/or reviewable items. My intent is to reach BTL and remain there.

I would stress the fact that SFI is not a pyramid or get rich quick scheme. Nor is it an investment site where you can expect an exaggerated 400% ROI within a few weeks. SFI offers you a platform to build a business with and a very large community of support and knowledge. Taking months, heck years, to build up a solid profitable business that will sustain itself for years to come. Give broad examples that put their position into perspective [maybe like "a person doesn't start their education at grade 12 and graduate within a week"] and gently map out for them all the factors they must first understand and apply before they can expect to see a larger (if any) return or commission. I would also make a point of directing them to some of SFI's success stories and let them know that they, themselves, through study, application, duplication, and commitment can achieve like results. Encourage them to connect with those who are behind these testimonials and gain insight as to how they became to successful (again with the duplication)
Most of all I would encourage them to continue as there will come a day they will look at all they have achieved and be proud

You get the commission for the sale, plus CV to add to your reward monthly. This is where the most money is made in SFI. Then if they are still disappointed,reassure them that you understand, you've been there and will be there for them to help them grow. That you appreciate their effort in continuing to log in and do the basics daily. That as they work the basics, they will learn more and more information to grow their sales.
