As far as communication with the PSA, you have to see to them what is the easiest way to communicate.
In most cases, the new PSA more than watching their mail messages through SFI (PSA Mailer).
In any case, it is important to establish communication with team members.
My recommendation is that you're sending to both.
It is important that the members hear often, to help them solve problems.
But do not forget that every week you send a message via PSA Mailer because then you'll get 30VP.

To tell you the truth I don't see the difference in either of them because the messages you send to your PSA's here on SFI they will also receive them in their personal email addresses unless they didn't white list and they never check their bulk folders. I know this from my two years of experience on SFI because my upline sends me messages on SFI or on Facebook and guess what happens? I receive notifications on my yahoo email address and I even get text messages from Facebook to my smartphone.
I think the geneology is the best mailer when it comes to sending group mails because you have more filtering options when it comes to narrowing your selection of PSA's or CSA's. The PSA mailer comes in handy because they have ideas of what to write when you do not know what to say to your downline. So in short I think the best way to contact your most active downline is here on SFI so that way they will also receive it in their email address.

For me contacting PSAs through SFI as you mentioned PSA Mailer is not only better but the best because with your message, the company's name(SFI) and the URLs and other links are also sent along with it. With these, the PSAs can browse the internet and find for themselves about SFI and can already tell that you are serious about what you are imparting to them.
If you want to create personal contacts with your PSA specially at the beginning you will want to use direct email address. You can send them e-cards as well to welcome, encourage or congratulate them.
On the otherhand PSA mailer is mostly used to contact the whole group and to pass on a group message to give direction, support or information. This might seem too cold for a new comer, who might feel lost in the crowd.
If you want to contact individual or send welcome letter to new PSA then send email directly to them and if your want to contact all of your team members or send weekly mail then use PSA Mailer. It's up to you.

I believe that contacting via e-mail address is much more better, because you can tell one off you affiliates everything that he/she need to know, and also everything that he/she want to know, and also to be worm and helpful with all his/hers issues. This is a more practical way to show your PSAs that you're carring for them and that you will help them with anything they need.But, also PSA Mailer is useful for you, as a weekly action (you can earn 30 VersaPoints by perfoming this action). I'm using this tool for all information regarding all my PSAs.

What connects you with your PSA is SFI business. PSA Mailer is for SFI business. To discuss SFI business, it is wise to use the SFI PSA Mailer for many reasons. I'll just mention a few.
At the bottom of each message that your PSAs receive, there are rights and options for your PSAs. If you send them messages direct, your email does not give them the options and their rights. So maybe you might be violating their rights.
If you send them message with PSA Miler, it goes both to their SFI mailbox and their private mail box.
