I'm an ECA wanting to sell my products internationally. How do I determine how much to charge for shipping to other countries that is fair to both me and my customers?

Unless you are going to have a very complicated shipping charge list then you are going to have to work out averages for the most popular destinations. A lot will depend on the weight of the item being sent. As an example I have looked at some products being shipped from USA to UK and it made some products far too expensive to ship and keep the items at a viable price.

There are many things to consider along with the weight. Things like physical size, ease of packing and cost of packaging

Thats great you want to offer the SFI and TripleClicks Community increased availability of options to serve our buying needs.

First, you will be required to research what Countries you would like to offer your products to, and seek out prices it would cost to ship your particular products based on weight, size, packaging required. Etc.

You will need all the information about your products when inquiring to postal offices in regions your inquiring to when determining pricing

From the USA you can just let SFI figure the cost of shipping at the time of the sale. The purchaser will know what that amount is at the time he hits the ORDER button.But you must submit the total weight of the object plus the packaging at the time you write the item description. Also TC does not add on the extras like insurance and tracking, so if you want to do that, then include them in your item price.

Hello there,..


For information about Shipping Prices I always look at the website from the USPS ( ircalc dot USPS dot gov)

There you can calculate the average shipping prices per package and per country.

Also you can consider the option of taking the average shipping cost and add that to the normal buying price.. Tah will make the product a little more expensive but you can then advertise with "FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE" for example..

Well this is certainly apt and timely I guess the best bet to determine how much to price it both for the products and for shipping to sell it globally are as follow:

Do the necessary due diligence and market research for the targeted products vis a vis other similar listing on the Tripleclicks as well as other online stores like Ebay etc. and also remember to weigh it and pack it safely with the lightest material available.

you can to to amazon.com and similiar sites and login and try to make purchases. when you checkout you will find shipping options and then you can find out how much these international ecommerce sites charge for shipping to each country

suppose you sell an item for 10$ then go to amazon.com and other ecommerce sites and check 10$ items and check shipping charges. this will help you determine charges

The best way will be to do some research. Determine how you want to ship your products, meaning which carriers you will use in your area. Once you have determined the carrier(s) you will use, speak with the carrier(s) and ask them for a pricing list for different countries. This will give you and idea of the cost to various international area. In order for you to attract more buyers, consolidate your shipping cost to your products.
This would be a better choice.

You might be able to check them online, as most companies has gone 'global' nowadays.

The real challenge when figuring out your shipping strategy is determining a solution that cuts into your profit as little as possible yet remains attractive to your customers.

1. If you decide to offer free shipping this will require you to either absorb the cost or slightly increase your prices to cover it.

2. Another option is flat rate shipping, figure out your average cost of shipping a package to make sure that you don't drastically undercharge or overcharge your customers.

My day job is in procurement. I buy stuff from all over the world and then bring it into SA.
So my advice to you would be to look at forwarding agents and get quotes from them. Ship all your sales through the agent you choose and negotiate good prices and payment terms with them. By going into a contract with one agent it means you do not have to negotiate on a price for every shipment and it means you can have a set price for shipments. You can work on averages - which is in my opinion
