The short answer is NO, in my opinion. I answer through my own experience which may differ greatly from some of the other successful marketers here.
SFI has provided a website. I have read the comments of several that say this is a must. I don't see that having my own site has helped at all.
I DO write blogs/press releases. While these blogs help people to know me better, I have had no direct signups through a blog, at least directly.
You need to find people. You need to show them you have something of value for them. You need to teach them to do the same, with or without a blog and a personal website.

After all, maintaining a domain costs money, and running your own blog requires an interest in writing to be successful. Some people work very well with advertising their gateways; others do well by directing traffic; still others do best by recruiting directly, person-to-person.
The trick to doing well is in doing what fits your skill-set and temperament because you will do well at what you find easiest and most pleasant. For me, that does happen to include blogging from my own website and trading Sci-Fi articles to some of the bigger sites in return for free advertising.
What do you want to do most with your time? That will hold the secret to your success.

You don't need to have a website or your own blog to be successful with SFI. You can use ready made material available in marketing section of SFI. You can use this material to post your ads on free classified ads, twitter, facebook and many other site. To be successful, post your ads regularly. You may not see the result instantly, but you will see the result in long time.

Websites and blogs are both excellent ways to promote and build your business, but unless you already have a good knowledge of setting them up, getting good numbers of visitors etc then I would say that they are a much more advanced level of marketing so save them for later on when you can spend time learning how to set them up.
And if the thought of setting up a website or blog fills you with fear then don't worry, there are many other ways to advertise your business, and you can definately succeed with SFI without having them.

As many people joined SFI company, you have to have a guide to take him there, and it's your blog.
I believe that marketing has the most influence in the spread of this company.

Although having your own website or blog would Help in your SFI business you do not need them to be successful. Promoting Yourself in person understanding. SFI, give anyone interested a SFI Business card with your affiliate number. Besides being a member you already have a gateway with your links and professional landing pages. I would suggest email signatures with a banner.
