If a person you sponsor advances in SFI faster than you do, you should consider yourself. Of course, you can continue to try and support them, but practically in most cases, it would be other way around. You would be learning a lot from him/her.
Visit his/her profile and what Standing Order he is buying. If it is better than yours, try to copy them or advise them to buy a better Standing Order. Also check up how many Tcredits they are purchasing. You can copy them for yourself or advise them to go for a better package.
Visiting his activity tab can give you a lot of clue. Advise him/her for the better activity. If his activity is better than yours; then you can copy his actions.
See how he/she is sponsoring his/her affiliates. Is that method is better than yours, if yes, then follow him/her. If his/her method is non-productive try to advise them for a better way to sponsor.
