I always use SFI mail, email, via the genealogy link.
Here are my reasons:
1. I want to be sure that the communication I am having with my PSA group is consistent with the guidelines SFI has in place. Every email communication through SFI is reviewed. It keeps everything above board between myself, my Affiliates, and SFI. For me, this is a green light.
2. When the Affiliate receives the email, it is clearly identified as SFI related. There is no confusion caused, and everything, again, is good between myself, SFI, and my Affiliate.
3. I have not yet been able to set-up an opt-out button on my personal email. I have, however, once when using my personal email format, received a request from an Affiliate to cancel the membership. When I use SFI email format, on the bottom, there is a nicely written opt-out paragraph that takes care of this issue neatly and cleanly. I am not the one then, who is deleting the Affiliate. He/she has the opportunity to take care of this critical decision for themselves. I much prefer that. (I would HATE to have to make that choice for someone else, or even take that action.)
4. Sometimes, an Affiliate does opt-out. If this happens, contacting them again would be grounds for having yourself removed from SFI. Using SFI mail system, rather than your own private email system, will exclude Affiliates who have cancelled their accounts from your mailing. This ensures that you are not violating SFI policy.
