Step One:

Set up an email account somewhere other than your main one. Gmail.com and Mail.com are free and are good for this.

Step Two:

Send an email to the responder from the new account, or use the new account on the form that causes the autoresponder to be activated.

Step Three:

Check the new email account for the receipt of the first in the series of emails that you have set up the autoresponder to send out. Then check it again at the proper intervals for the messages and delays you have set up.

If no message comes to the new account, there is a problem with the autoresponder that needs to be resolved. Rinse and repeat from Step Two.

Step Four:

You got the message at the new account, so you are now assured that the autoresponder is functioning properly.
