Greet them, just as a an introduction, but don't stop there.
I have found out that the best way after the initial contact is not to wait for your affiliate to correspond with you and ask you questions. Like me, many new affiliates hesitate to contact a total stranger, especially when we are worried that your questions may seem silly.
I found out that the best way is to stay in regular contact with my affiliates, congratulate them for every milestone they have achieved, no matter how small, post about those milestones on stream. Furthermore, I use that opportunity to check on their profile what they still need to do and include that as an encouragement in my congratulations letter. I saves them from having to ask me those questions until they feel more confident.
