That is a good question as there are so many ECA's selling them.
I myself have done both a few times. I suggest that you get in on the S-builder and start your own advertising campaign going and maybe try to buy a few from the ECA's if you have the funds to do so. The more the better plus you can develop your advertising skills,try advertising on all the free ad sites you can.
If you are a beginner in internet marketing, start with step by step to become a skilled and powerful Sponsor must learn the business. During this learning could be beneficial to find ways by different sources.
Advertising to generate traffic to your gateway.
Use the Co-op, tearing S-Builder Co-op.
Add banner on your website or blog dvs.personal.
You can also buy PSA, or enter to win auctions PSA

Great Question. How did you get signed up to SFI ? That's your answer .You can use that same method to recruit to your own team. My sponsor got my attention on twitter ! I've not missed a day & I have to say I'm proud of being able to get my own PSA's by using the marketing methods found here at SFI. There is nothing wrong with buying PSA'S but this is a marketing business so why not employ your marketing skills & be proud of your results . Then teach your downline to do the same .

I think you should both sponsor and Buy PSAs. Whether you buy them or refer them you still have to sponsor them. When you do both, then your chances of generating at lest a few good workers increases. We know that there will be many inactive PSAs but there must be a few from both sponsoring methods who will duplicate your actions and help to grow your business.
Think its better to sponsor yourself as you can be sure they are genuine. Even the most famous of the sellers of PSAs on SFI buy the advertising from outside agencies and really not worth the money you pay for them as there is no guarantee of even getting one real affiliate from those. In my experiences in 3 months every single one i got was non responsive and also 50% with bogus email ids that dont work. You can try the S-Builder Co-op if you still want gain PSAs every month.
It's a great thing to apply the methods, what you've learned here in SFI and get yourself a quality team, PSA's. Also, by sponsoring affiliates, you learn more and prove yourself as a quality Team Leader.
On the other hand it is also a great thing to consider the S-Builder where you can also get some affiliates or PRM's.
Combining both of the methods can bring you more success of course, what I would personally suggest to you.

I also purchase PSA's. I Budget $40.00 every month to bring them in. Why you ask if I'm sponsoring? I call it the funnel. I always like to keep that funnel full with new leads that can make me and extra dollar.

I just want to say that I'm not really into marketing myself. But for someone who have a tight budget every month, I 've decided to learn how to sponsor my own PSA while I try to save up every month so I could buy S-builder to help in marketing. So, I suggest you use both method too. Anyway, I got my first PSA after placing my gateway at some free ads exchange site. You might want to start doing the same too.
