SFIM Instant messaging is used to communicate with the team. But in practical I use to communicate with the affiliates who are available when I am online.

It is very effective when you received the message from SFI, stating that you have sponsored a new affiliate.
When we receive that message we can confirm that the affiliate is online and we can use the chat to welcome him and remind him about the fast track at first. Then we can send the video link about the new system and scoring the versa points.

One more method I used to get into chat is through genealogy. I filter the members who are having versa point this month > than 0. you can get the list of members who are active and you can see the yellow bubble if they are online. I use to communicate with them.

According to my point of view ,for Affiliates instant messenger is the best medium of sharing and learning together.

# Phone displacement:

For geographically dispersed environments, IM can be used as a substitute for short-duration phone calls, eliminating expenses.

# Immediacy:

IM can help in immediate responses.For example a new Affiliate who is not aware of the importance of green line can be informed for sudden action.

# Breaking distance and language barriers:

Presence gains more power with distributed teams—group of Affiliates in numerous locations and time zones. “IM helps to work, as though we are in the same building,” There’s even a solution for team members who neither speak nor write English comfortably.

# Bonding:

Instant messaging is helpful in maintaining a link among Affiliates.Of course we can send E-mail but here the front person will be clearing all his doubts then and there.So that he /she will be more clear about the topic.

All that and I do imparting his team, all the useful tips, strategies.

Every time I log in at the affiliate center I check on my genealogy page to see who is online. If I see that the yellow button is next to their name I will send them a quick instant message just to let them know I am available if they need anything. When I am logged in, I keep an eye out for new SFIM messages coming in. You will see a flashing yellow message just to the right of your profile photo when you have a new SFIM message. (Don't have one? shame on you. Upload your photo now!!)

Most of my affiliate team is not in the US, so one problem I have is being able to be online at the same time that they are. I can log in at any time of the day or night and find people online, but I have to sleep sometimes! To be able to leave them a message using the IM system is helpful, because sometimes people do not read the messages in their SFI inbox for a long time. PSAs can also see the yellow button next to my name on their home page when I am available.

Sometimes I will quickly send them an IM to let them know that I have another team site with a live chat room where they can find me at certain hours. I also make my Skype ID available and encourage my team to friend me on Facebook. But I try to log in to the affiliate center several times a day to see if anyone is there.

My own sponsor must keep his affiliate center open in a browser at all times, because his yellow button is almost always there when I log in to the affiliate center. Even though I don't bother him, it is nice to know that he is available, and I will use that as a signal that he is working on his SFI business and I might be able to reach him by email. I hope that my affiliates will do the same.

I tend to use my genealogy mailer if I'm trying to impart some knowledge of my team but I do use the Instant Messaging (Chat) just to keep in touch with my team members. I use it for the more personal touch. "Hi, how's the wife and kids" type of chat.

I've found it better to use the Team Mailers for providing information because the recipient can always go back and reread the information. Whereas in Chat once you close the bubble you've lost the information.

Using SFIM for personal chats also shows team members that I'm a real person and not just an autoresponder and that I do care enough about THEM to ask about their lives. I believe this is a necessity if you want to retain and build your team.

The SFI instant messenger can be a very effective tool for building rapport with affiliates particularly those that have not been directly recruited by you or with whom you have no other direct means of contact. It can be used to get to know these affiliates, to answer their questions or share ideas and to provide other guidance and encouragement.
When you receive a response in an instant message setting you are sure that your message has been received and can clarify any misunderstandings or resolve any issues. I have sent tons of emails to my downline and very few members of my team have ever responded. I have no idea if the others have received the messages and what impact if any has been created.
I always invite my affiliates to send me a message if my SFIM status is active and I promise to respond whenever they do. I also try to initiate conversations when I see that they are online. I have learnt however, that to build trust in this as a useful tool, it is a good idea to log out of your page if you are not there. It is frustrating to have a "burning question" go unanswered by someone who has offered to assist but appears to be ignoring you.

I use the instant messaging as a direct line to my up line, and a quick way of chatting one liners to people on my team like words of encouragement. I do not like instant messaging too much because I feel in my opinion that it wastes time. I do not want to sit and read a screen back and forth.
If I want to say something lengthy I usually use Team Mail or genealogy mailing.
I must say I like how SFI is taking a hold of technology and bringing it to it's website. I just feel that we as a whole do not really need it as much as some feel we might. Again this is my opinion.

Personally I love SFIM for two reasons;
1. It gives me the opportunity to get instant feed back. I am able to know whether the person I am communicating is understanding what I want to say.

2. I am able to provide help to my downline and if I am communicating with my upline I can get a quick advice from them.

Yes i have used it many times and i am happy to say that i always got good results.
But the main thing is how and when to use it.

1. Do chat with the team mate u know already like your friends,family,classmates,office mates etc. It will ensure them that you are active here and giving right guidance.

2. Sometimes initiate chat with those who are new and doing extremely good or those who have joined earlier but trying after gap of some months.This will make them believe that you are always by their side and ready to help them.

3. Many times you will find some team member asking question through chat,answer their questions through chat only because many members dont read their inbox much but this live chat option blinks always when their is a message,so they will read your sponsor and it will create a better bond in your team.

4. You can also use this feature to message some one personally in your team like to congratulate them for becoming TL, or ECA etc.
They will feel that you do care for them .

This is really a good question and thanks to wesely.

As far as I feel it is good handy tool while you are working with SFI to communicate with your team member but only with old member in your team.

This is good tool to ask about any tips or doubt you faced while you are working. Don’t use this for chat otherwise it will bother your another team member because they might have limited time to complete their daily task. There is chance that they may ignore you, if you will put lot of things through this tool.

As far as I feel we should avoid this tool to use with new affiliates because they are new and want to learn a lot about SFI and there is chance that they don’t want to face you because they don’t know much about you, starting SFIM might forced them to log out.

It is good to send the regular mail to new affiliates in the beginning, once they become familiar with you then you can give some tips if they required while working through SFIM.
