I think that if it has reached the time that they ask you this question they are very interested in joining but might be scared that you will be playing the role of their "boss" and that rises this question.
Explain to them that you will not be playing "boss" rather that they might see you as a business partner.
Also explain to them that you are their team leader and that you are there to support them when ever is necessary but never let them think or real like you are the boss.
Even if your rank is higher than theirs, explain to them that they can also reach your rank and that you will help them when ever is needed.

When I am ask what my role is at SFI I proudly say I am a marketing affiliate of SFI this also puts me in partnership with SFI.My role here at SFI is to Market/advertise both online and offline encourage growth in members/affiliates and sales of the products at TripleClicks which happens to my store.
My role is here at SFI is to encourage perspectives to join my team giving greater force to the affiliate count and to get prospect to buy items I have in store.
Simply put, my objectives and SFI objectives are the same and that is to make SFI and TripleClicks as big as it can be!!

It really depends on what you think your role is or what in SFI you are promoting.
I believe your role in SFI should be similar to mine.
You want to sell TripleClicks products.
You want to recruit more affiliates and TC members.

Simply just introduce the part of being Affiliate, promoting products at triplelcicks and when get sell you can get commission. Building a team is like a building a potential costumer and teach them how to build their potential costumer also. You can put your roles as local business partners where you can use the power of ECA program but your need to maintain your EA every month. your role is Local products promoter and local business partners.

Your answer should be that you are an teamleader/sponsor who should be happy to promote them to be in your team as psa´s at Sfi who is a great company they can join and learn a lot like marketing,duplication, etc for get a additional income whit several income streams.
And there your going to be their sponsor and give them all the help and support they need and that you going to be avaible for them what ever it is and always do your best.
You should also point out some of the -doing-like that Sfi is not like other onlinebusiness-we have a very good step by step plan, wealth of info and fun tasks like the actions, games, etc to do as our `job`

The best answer is to tell them your rank in the company. Your responsibilities are attached to your position. What are your positions? Are you a sponsor? A team Leader? A TripleClicks member? An Entrepreneur Finalist?These all points to your role in SFI.
Just tell them. In fact, SFI wants us to acknowledge our position with them and that with PRIDE!
I do this a lot and it has never fail to bring prospects. Try it too. it works
When asked by a prospect what my role in SFI is, I generally answer like this:
"I am an affiliate and team leader within SFI, which means I promote TripleClicks and SFI itself, and I also teach my affiliates how to do what I do so well. Thus, not only do I make money through my promotion process, I also help those who I talk to succeed exactly like I do. Would you like to build a business of your own with SFI's help? I would love to show you how."
