A very good and often misunderstood question.

The most obvious answer is the members. You can liken it to your SFI downline in some ways. If you have 200 members of your downline, but only 3 are taking any action then this is not going to help you too much. Safelists rely on the members reading and then clicking on emails. The important part of this sentence is reading.

Some of the members will glance at the email headline and go straight to the link to click for their credits. There are those that are only interested in getting credits so they can send out their emails. Of course they expect their emails to be read.

So when looking at safelists as a form of advertising the number of members they have is not the only factor you need to weigh up. As the majority of safelists are free to join you can join some and send out your ads and see the response you get.

Before you write any of the safelists off, have a good look at your ad. Would you sign up or buy something from the ad. If not it is time to rewrite your ad. If you find success with an ad then you may want to take out a pro grade in that safelist.

The popularity i.e. membership of a safelist can act as a good indicator to the amount of active members they have but it is up to you to check out each and every safelist by joining and sending out ads and checking responses.

You may even consider starting your own safelist. That way your ad goes out as the header and or footer ad on ever email sent out by the list members.

Let me share what a safe list is and how does it work?

Safe-lists are group of people who agreed to receive email from each other. It is hosted by a website where you sign up with your email address.

Your email ad is not seen by other members, instead you will have a kind of form where you put your ads. The website server send your email to the members of the safe-list site while you too will receive ads from other members.

Now to the question, what makes one better than another?

There are variations of safe-list websites that you can join and look for these features that in my opinion would be better safelist.

1. Look for a safe-list site that categorizes the interests of the members and you have the option to send only to those people who have interests on your ads.

2. Look for a safe-list site that categorizes members according to country and have an option to send email only to your selected countries.

3. Look for a safe-list site that categorizes members as free or paid and have the option of sending email only to paid members.

These three features will set the safelist website apart from others. Why because this will enable you to target the right people for SFI.

Let me further explain these features are important.

1. Only interested to programs like SFI can last.

2. Usually members from advance countries will have credit cards and can transact business online.

3. Paid members have already tried paying online.

SFI is a business therefore we need affiliates who can transact business online.

SAfelist is a form of e-mail marketing and advertising where the members have agreed to receive each other’s messages, there is an administrator who manages the list and send the email for the members. There are many kinds of list such as Paid list, Credits based list and free list.

In my opinion, the only thing that sets a safe list higher than the other is the amount of exposure or reach that the list has. The number of of members who subscribed to the list also determines how wide the exposure of the list will be.

In comparison, I think that paid Safe list has a greater advantage then the free membership. If you subscribe to the paid package, you will not have to view other members adverts before you can post your own advert on the site. Again there is a great disadvantage here; if every member is a paid member, there will be no one to view the ads everyone is posting and that will erode the purpose of the adverts.

in choosing the kind of list to subscribe to, one should consider; membership base of the site and also what kind of list to subscribe to.

In my opinion what makes one safelist better over another, and in this case between
FREE safelists is whether or not your message/link/email is going to be seen.

Also, the amount of time your message has to be opened and viewed is another factor. If it is too long
then the viewer will not want to open as many emails as they would if the time for viewing is just right.
Anything over 30 seconds is too long for me. And that IS long enough for the message to catch me.
10 TO 20 SECS is fine.

If there is a system of credit for viewing, it increases your chances. The amount of credit counts, too.
I know of at least one example where it is very hard to earn enough to actually keep using the system
for free. While most of the others are very good at the free level and even better when upgraded.

I prefer safelists that have several options available. For example, if in the member area there are
ways to add links, html listings, and banner, as well as the emails that can be sent for free, it increases
your chances of exposure.

Another thing to keep in mind is the amount of members the safelist has. If only under a hundred or just
several hundred members you are limited in how many you are going to attract in the long term. If too
many, then members are just getting bombarded with thousands of messages and they end up deleting them.

Lastly, though, it is up to the member to present attracting messages, links, or banners.

Not tracking which safe list yields better response will only waste your time and money, especially when posting to numerous others.

Therefore Choose your safe list very carefully. Each list has its own style and community behavior. All safe lists are not created equal, meaning each list has its own target of people that regularly post, and its own moderator to make sure everything operates smoothly. Finding the right one that specifically matches your product or service alone is not enough to successfully get the most out of using a safe list.

The only and best way to find responsive free safelists is to try and test it out to figure which ones work for you and you would need to be able to track your links. I. Would suggest to use a free social bookmarking site that provides analytics such as Bit.ly which is popular to create a tracking link to the URL of an S.F.I offer or website you’re promoting.

And A decent safe list will usually have a text ad rotator which increases your exposure ,

The only and best way to find responsive free safelists is to test lots of them out to figure out which ones are the best converting! Here’s how:


First you need to be able to track your links. Use a free social bookmarking site that provides analytics such as Bit.ly which is popular to create a tracking link to the URL of an S.F.I offer or website you’re promoting.

Promote that link to every free safelist you possibly can, sending the maximum number of emails at the maximum frequency allowed by the list owner. Don’t forget to keep clicking for credits to make sure you’ve got enough mailing credits.

Keep a spreadsheet to document the results over a period of a few weeks or more. You can create your own spreadsheet if you’re good at that sort of thing.
Calculate the Click Through Rate (CTR) for each safelist. CTR is determined by dividing the number of clicks by the total number of emails sent.

That is why you just have to consider the following when trying to distinguish one safe-list from another in terms of quality.

2. How does it rank in Search Engines.
3. How frequently does the list send out the e-mails?
4. What types of listings does it allow?
5. Is it owner/creator-managed?
6. What additional perks does the list offer?
7. How long has it been in successful safe-listing business?
8. How favorable are the testimonies of users?
9. How many members are registered on the site?
10. How convenient it is to use the lists?

There are couple of things that differentiate safe-lists.

Most important two are, Click Through Rate (CTR), and Conversion Ratio (CR)

CTR is number of clicks your mail receives per each mailing.
CR is number of sign-ups you get from one mailing, or, number of signups from your CTR

Example:
If you send to 1000 members, and 100 click your link, your CTR is 10%. If out of those 100, 10 signup you get 10% CR from your CTR, and 1% CR from you mailing.

Next thing you want to watch out for is, how often you may send your mail, and how large your audience is.
Then you want to see if you can buy (or earn) the right to mail to a wider audience.

Example:
Safe-list lets you mail 1000 members (out of 5000 total) every seven days. If you view 100 mails a week, you may mail 1500 members, or you may mail entire member base for a fee, or mail more often, and so on.

Of course, you need tracking method for this to work, so use separate key code for every Safe-List.

There is no such thing as a sure thing among safelist or traffic exchanges but with safelist there are some things to look at early on that will help you know if a poor result is a deliver-ability issue or an issue with your Subject Line and E-mail body.

I personally look for safelist that fit the following criteria.

1. They're credit based.

2. They list total members and active members separate.

3. They don't sell blaster memberships, not one of those safelist has ever resulted in any kind of conversion for me or anyone I know.

4. You don't earn more than 20-30 credits per e-mail you open. remember this, if they give 1 credit per e-mail you will receive 1 e-mail per e-mail you send, if they give 20 credits they must send you twenty e-mails to cover each e-mail you actually read. If you don't want to receive more than 2,000 e-mails to earn 100 credits watch your exchange rate. More e-mails sent means lower odds your e-mails will be read instead of the hundreds of other options.

5. Choose list that allow you to send e-mails to less than 10% of their membership per day. Again this is a matter of delivering fewer total e-mails to each user which increases open rates. My best list let's you as a free member mail 2500 of their 40,000 active members every 3 days. It out performs an membership I canceled that sent to 10,000 members daily in terms of open rates and conversions.

6. Solo Ads should be special and costly. These B.S. sites that claim mail real solo ads daily don't even know what a solo ad is. A solo ad should go to the contact mail not the list mail of the user. They should be limited to no more than 20 of them sent in a day and should offer the reader added value in receiving and opening these mails be it a chance at cash rewards, a fee paid per open, or a higher than normal number of credits. If the list sends too many solo ads then they will get the kind of open rates you see with the main list and your conversions will be terrible.

You can increase your results in Safelist by purchasing upgrades but your best results are typically from high value Solo Ads which can cost you up to $129 per send but have a better chance of gaining a return on your investment. Be frugal, don't listen to people that say join a lot of list and mail to as many as possible because the real numbers game should not be quantity of unread e-mails sent, it should be quality of results because you can't pay the bills with 1 million sent but unopened e-mails, only with solid sales and sign-ups.
