There are many definitions of spam but the most general definition of "spam" is the sending of e-mail that is both bulk and unsolicited. For details on the definition of spam messages you can read in the SFI Internet Income Course, Lesson #1 - "What Not To Do: Spam"
It would be good contact your members individually and ask for the reason.
Way you will know where you made mistakes and in the future you will avoid them.
