I tend to use a combination of both methods--direct e-mail and PSA Mailer (or, more often, the Genealogy tool)--depending on what my goals are. If I'm looking to broadcast a message to everyone under me simultaneously, like announcing a contest or an incentive, that will go out via the PSA mailer (or Genealogy tool) because I want them knowing that I'm contacting everyone at the same time. Direct content via e-mail is all about more personalized communication, and when I reach out that way, it's for a more tailored, individual reason, like when someone needs direct guidance.
