We face the challenge of access to computers as well in Africa.
In my team, for example, I have a set of long distance truck drivers.
Due to the nature of their work, they will get internet access in the cyber cafes in some of the towns that are designated as rest areas. When they travel to the remote areas, there are no computers.
How do they overcome this challenge?
The smart phone comes in handy and most of the drivers have access to smart phone.
I also have a team of mechanics who may work from time to time in areas where there are no computers. One time they went to repair a truck that had a breakdown on the highway in uninhabited area.
They borrowed a tablet from one of the truck drivers who stopped to see if they needed some help, connected it to the internet using a mobile phone WiFi hotspot .
Then they used the tablet in turns to do their tasks and even make purchases. That truck driver who had previously only used the tablet to play games and social media was so impressed that they recruited him to join SFI.
The most creative experience that they have shared was There is an old adage that if we want something badly enough, we shall look for a solution. If not, we shall make excuses. Challenge to look for solutions and use this limitation as a motivation to ensure they work hard in SFI and that way they will earn their own computers within a few months.
