I think your using the word "bride" is not doing justice to yourself! Rather refer to it as an incentive. Since the literal meaning of incentive is a thing that motivates or encourages someone to do something, which i suppose is what you are aiming at on SFI.
Back to your questions:
1. there is no problem in encouraging your team to work hard and compete for prizes from you their team leader. it might work very well but not all the time, but i bet you it will definite work for those who are determined to succeed in the business. you know there will always be those who lag behind and are not willing to do more in order to succeed.
2. i don't see it anyway coming back to bite you. Do it in good faith and you will also be motivating your down-lines to copy you by your example and do same to their own down-lines.
