I believe that this varies from one situation to another. For instance, if I have personally recruited someone by talking to him or her, explaining all about SFI and this person decides to join, then I would send him or her an individual welcome letter. However, I often buy signups from an ECA and consequently get over a hundred people in a very short period time, here I decide to send them all a welcome letter in a group mailing.

You can personalize it somewhat by using ~FIRSTNAME~ in your message, but keep the information in the letter standard. After all, they all have to know the same things when they start off.
