The sponsor should in effect teach the affiliate how to "fish" but at no point should s/he do the "fishing" for him/her. S/he can however put the bait on the hook until the affiliate is confident and skilled enough to do it alone.
In the end it is up to the individual sponsor as to how far is "beyond".
