I totally agree with you that there are many people who sign up but only a few are really committed. When one gets a long list of new PSAs or CSAs, I think it is difficult to separate quantity from quality on the first day until you have seen how they perform in the first week. On the 6th of January 2014, when I was answering your question, the growth page at SFI showed that the total number of members was 2,044,968. Mind boggling indeed as 2 million is roughly the population of Botswana.
Looking at the overall Versa points Leader board, one can see that of the top 50 leaders listed, 18 are from the USA and 7 are from Canada. Here is the rest of the table for the top 50.

With such statistics, it is tempting to jump into conclusions but I think that many people who sign up and then give up maybe doing so either due to financial constraints, language barrier or because it is not what they were expecting. What the Table also shows is that anyone from anywhere in the world has the potential to be the best and this is very inspiring to the rest of us.
All one can do is just keep on advertising widely and work with those who are willing. Many are called but few are chosen!
