I think that the best way to accomplish this would be to engage with them first.

Here's what I mean:

When you first become a2a with someone try and connect with some of his or her values. Find out what he or she likes or does and share what you like and do as well.

Simply build a strong relationship and give him or her something of value from time to time. An e-book or a send him a funny joke of the day or even a funny YouTube video.

This will surely work in your favor. Once you have built a great friendship and trust with that person, his or her support and assistance will come as a natural thing to do and you will have a friend for life on top of that! How's that for a change!
