I am also new and I take this as an opportunity to share what's in my mind too. Thanks to SFI to have created this platform to all affiliates to find answers to all their questions.
There is no restriction for us to make a2a friends in SFI. When getting started with SFI we are given a badge for becoming a2a member. The thing is how we make use of it fruitfully.
If our a2a friend is affiliate like us we can discuss with them about how to improve in our business. Starting with a warm greeting, and responding to their update progress will do a lot more. Likewise we can intimate all news updates as they might not have noticed in some busy schedule.
If our a2a friends are ECA's too we can promote their products through Advertisements in various websites by which we also can be benefited.
Just as a small fire produces little heat, small actions produce small results! Happy affiliating!
