Here is a tough answer.
Don't waste time trying to convince someone to continue.
First of all it most likely won't be successful. Even if it is successful there is a very good chance that the affiliate will be wanting to quit again... usually sooner than later.
I have a favorite quote from retired football coach Bill Parcells, "If they don't bite as pups, they probably don't bite."
He is speaking about rookie professional football players, but the same applies to affiliates.
The affiliates that "get it" hit the ground running from day one. Spend your time, effort, and energy working with and supporting these affiliates. The time spend doing anything else is usually unproductive.
Now the sole expection is where you have a long time affiliate that has been successful but is mired in a slump or hit a rough patch. Here I would advise you to let them know that it is OK to "take a break" but to keep the minimum Standing Order and login at least once a week just to maintain the organization they have built up. Check in with these people regularly and don't allow the "break" to last too long. sometimes these guys come back stronger afte such a break.
