All tools has its own appropriate uses. Almost everybody will say that these tools are effective to use in communicating with team members. But based on my experience I would say yes and no. I will start with no.
It is not effective when your team members are shy and can not speak well specially English. It will cause embarrassment and may just refuse to communicate with you any further.
Technically it is not effective if either of you have slow internet connection, you will just end up frustrated, and can not even say “hello, how are?” without being cut –off.
Now for the Yes. Yes it is very effective when you have already developed relationship with your team members. Oh.. the talking will just be spontaneous. I am using it with my affiliate friends a lot. But with new affiliates I use writing to communicate information and also my intention to offer help and friendship.
