The qualities one needs to succeed in SFI are fairly much the same qualities needed to succeed in any endeavour.

Self motivated: One needs to realise that success is up to himself - not the sponsor, co-sponsor or even the company. They can all be great, but you have to do motivate yourself and do the work yourself.

Self-disciplined: One needs to get in and do what has to be done without someone else telling you what to do and when to do it. You are your own boss, and must learn

What is the first/best tip you give to your brand new PSAs to help them get started?

My first tip to help get my new PSAs started is to advise them to go for the Fast Start Bonus.

After this I guide them on the steps needed to be taken on achieving EA in their first month. I try to discourage them from rushing on and becoming a team leader right off, because without a team it won't do them much good anyway, and I feel it is best to get a good solid grounding in how the business works by taking it slowly to begin with.

This is an interesting question and it appears different people have interpreted it in different ways. Some people have described the process of building your SFI business so that you become a leader. Personally I think the question is referring to the process of developing yourself as a leader - developing your own leadership skills. That is how I will answer.

Firstly to be a good leader one needs to be able to be a good follower and be teachable.

Is it wise to offer non-SFI related incentives to my CSAs and PSAs? For example, create a standing order and get a free DVD?

This could be a good idea, so long as the product is related to business-building and won't cost you anything. For example if you have e-books to which you have PLR, or which you have written yourself, you could put them on your website and offer the download link to someone who has achieved one of your targets.

I guess you could do the same with CDs or DVDs in the proper format that could be downloaded. You wouldn't want to add the cost and time of production, packaging and shipping

I would recommend every kind of marketing method, both offline and online, to new PSAs.
Encourage your PSAs to think about the possibilities available to them offline. Do they have friends and family who may be receptive to becoming involved either as PSAs, ECAs or PRMs, or whether they might even help by putting up flyers for them?
Are there places where they can distribute the $12 gift cards? Are there craft markets and small businesses where your PSAs might find ECAs?

When you greet your new PSAs you want to make them feel welcome, assure them of your help and support and assure them of what a great business they have joined and the wonderful opportunity that awaits them.

To make them feel welcome tell them who you are, that you are their sponsor and welcome them to your team. Tell them that you would love to get to know them and welcome any correspondence from them assuring them of your reply.

Offer them your help:

There are people in SFI who sell subscriptions to material which they produce for you to modify or even use directly. You can use this content because your payment allows you to use the copyrighted material.

You can also subscribe to network marketing newsletters and take a message from such newsletters and rewrite in your own words. You can combine messages from different newsletters to make your own unique article.

Read articles in article directories, read items from magazines,

Is it wise to 'bribe' your downline with Gift Certificates, TCredits or other incentives? Or does this practice come back and bite you?

Personally, I don’t think this is a good idea. This is a person’s own business. People shouldn’t need to be bribed to work at their own business and earn their own incomes.

However a reward can be appropriate, and Gift Certificates, TCredits or PSA reassignments may be used as rewards for hard workers who attain certain achievements.

You have to weigh up whether you are offering these gifts as rewards or bribes. It can be a fine line. Also if you are struggling to

What is the best way to convince someone who is over 50 that they should get started with SFI?

I don't think people over 50 need convincing. At that age they are getting close to retirement and know whether they have saved enough to have the retirement lifestyle they want. Most of us haven't! We are looking for something else to supplement the pension or hopefully replace it altogether. Who wouldn't want a leveraged residual income that will allow them to be free of financial worries in their old age?

A lot of us over 50 have time on our hands or are living alone after the loss

Summing up the complexity and variety of SFI in one sentence, does not do it justice, but here is my attempt:

"SFI is an enjoyable and varied business ideally suited to those who love communicating with others and teambuilding, with the potential to make a steady income for life if you work hard to build it up at the beginning."
