I will treat my affiliates as my customers, because that is what they are. I answer all their emails as best I can, and any new affiliates always get a new affiliate greeting from me. I always send them an email when they have achieved EA status or higher. Communication with my affiliates is vitally important. I use the PSA and CSA mailer consistently, and I use the Team Talk on a regular basis. If all my Team Talk messages are from the president instead of myself, I'm not doing my job in helping my affiliates.

These are excellent ways to communicate with your downline because you don't have to worry about undeliverable Email addresses or affiliates who may have opted out. The messages also go to the affiliates' email addresses. This is a real win-win situation for everyone and makes life easier when you have thousands of affiliates on your team. I only use regular email when I have a message in my email inbox and I need to send a message immediately. The tools given to us in SFI are the way to go.

The SFI email utility is an invaluable tool because it allows you to choose the members of your downline that you want to communicate with. For example, if you want to email all new SFI affiliates in your downline each day, you can just use the Genealogy to sort your downline by the Date Joined and filter it using today's date. Then you can send an email to just those affiliates. The SFI email utility is also effective if you are trying to reach affiliates that you do not have email addresses for.
However, using your own email address is most effective when trying to reach SFI affiliates who have not opted out of SFI but are no longer logging in to SFI. That way they get your message even if they don't log in to SFI.

I prefer the SFI messaging system for the simple fact that I know my mail will not get sent to the spam folder. With that being said it's also depends on how often your emailing them and how long the message is. SFI does limit those things but the limit is set very high so the average person usually doesn't have to worry about it. I do keep a list of my downlines email address though just to be on the safe side and some affiliates prefer to talk through their personal email rather than SFI.
As far as my style goes, it is always the SFI tools that I am using (PSA Mailer, CSA Mailer and the Genealogy Group Emailer). That's the best way to go. Only problem, I have faced/and am still facing is, the emails are queuing up and there is a definite delay in reaching the affiliates on time.
But, as I mentioned in one of my forum posts, it would be very helpful to make the emailers a bit more attractive so that HTML content could also be added just like our new forum. That will make the newsletters and all attractive.
Overall, the SFI tools are very helpful and easy in reaching out. If it could be made more attractive and fast in delivering emails, that's it!!

Depending on the number of people you need to contact. I found with 100 and up Genealogy is the best way to contact, then if you need to contact under you personal email will do for less than 10.
I always use SFI team mail to send out a weekly newsletter; however, in a case where You
may have new CSA's added to Your Genealogy, You may find it advantageous to use Your own
email for a co-sponsor welcome message to see whose inbox is available or not, or if You get a delivery status failure for someone.

You can always use your affiliate mail center to send group or personal messages. However, If you think that an affiliate may not be logging into SFI to do his/her daily points and training then this is when I would step into using a private mail service such as gmail or yahoo to show some added care and concern, because if they aren't logging in they won't ever get your messages of motivation. So if someone needs a push, show them some personal attention by personally emailing them at their regular email address. This is also a good option when sending them links or html as you cannot just click links in the SFI mailer. Be sure to explain this to newer affiliates.
Do make sure to use your Affiliate mailer center for regular scheduled communications to keep your team motivated and moving, also to get your vp's. As your Downline increases to more and more affiliates this will save you more and more time and you will appreciate it more and more.
So To conclude I believe they both are important to use for different reasons and try to keep team mailers and weekly motivation letters or what not to the SFI mailer and the more personal and direct messages to their regular emails.

In communicating to your downline, using the group mail service provided by SFI is the most appropriate system for me for several reasons:
1. With the group mail service by SFI you will be able to select which set of your downline you want to reach with your message. There are many selection criteria--you can use their VersaPoint, their KeyCode, their Join date, their rank especially if you use the group mail service in your genealogy.
2. In addition, the group mailer service will also send an email to their individual emails.
3. The emails sent by SFI system have a functional opt-out link which makes them non-spam.
You can also use your personal email if they reach you through your email first.

That said, you should communicate with your down line at least 3 times within a 7 day period but no more than 5. Your active members need your support and direction so 3 emails will do for them. Those that are not as active need to see that you are actively engage in your efforts to help them.
Another reason you want to use your own business mailer is that that html is available as well as basic formatting. Your sfi mailer is just plain text. If you include reference links you must explain that affiliates need to copy and paste the link into their browser. With POP mail, links are automatically blue and clickable. Moreover, their is a certain degree of privacy that your own personal mail affords that using the team mail does not. Every team mail is subject to scrutiny and if sfimg thinks that your message is to 'spammy' they won't approve it and all the work you put into it is lost.
In conclusion, team mail works like a charm for those active affiliates that just need a short reminder of tasks that have not been completed. A more detailed message may be need for those affiliates that are not as savvy with browsers and how they work. By using your how personal email, you can include many reference links and they will all be just point & click. I recommend that you use both. Besides, you can earn 30VPs each week by sending team mail. You can do this with your personal mail plus you do have to maintain that list. So when affiliates fall by the wayside, you have clean your contact list. Overall effectiveness of any message is 50/50.
