What is too much? You can decide for yourself. But I think we can help them a little at the beginning and see them do it for themselves and grow. Learn from a growing child, see how he/she grows. When a child is growing he/she needs a lot of attention however as they grow you'll notice they want to do things for themselves. This is how it is in the growing stages in any sphere. Whether it be child/mother relation, wife/husband relation, or be it business relationships the principles the same. Growing Process or a learning process! It is a process and process takes time and steps to grow.
Help as much as you can but allow them to help themselves and learn for themselves the path to survival. Here in SFI we call it path to success!
The famous Chinese proverb states give a man a fish and you'll have to feed him the rest of his life but if you teach him to fish he will never be hungry all his lifetime.

Is there such a thing as helping your affiliates TOO much?

Yes, there is.

There are two ways to help your affiliates. The right way and the wrong way.

You need to guide them and teach them how to do things for themselves. If they are asking questions, then you are on the right track! You want to teach them to duplicate what you're doing.

The important thing to remember is that you teach THEM to do it, and you are not doing it for them. It will not do either of you any good if you just do things for them.

Giving them something (PSAs, TCredits, gift certificates) as an incentive will create dependence. You don't want them to depend on you - you want them to learn to do it themselves. Use these things as rewards instead. Reward them for learning something new and putting it into practice. Reward them for tangible results.

If we differentiate strictly what it means to "help" and what is "do their job", I personally do not think there is any way to "help too" our affiliates.

For a committed, active and real willingness PSA to create his/her own business, any help you can offer (economic incentives, include it in your Co-Op to share with him/her the affiliates who can grasp or any other assistance you can devise) will be an invaluable assistance to improve his/her own business and he/her know use it like an extra to their own efforts to build and grow it.

A PSA that does't believe in the business, without interest and dedication necessary to do their own, not only can't value what you offer him, he/she may come to believe that he/she "needs" that help. And here we have a serious problem, since neither will draw what is being offered, or deemed not deserve such help. For better or worse, SFI is a personal business that depends on each of us, and if we don't put effort on our part, any help we can get simply doesn't work.

So I don't think there's a way to help our affiliates too much. What I think is that there are members who are not ready to be helped. With them, we can only teach them to fish, because if you ever try to get them a fish they never catch the cane to fish

Hi Emma

In my opinion there is never too much help you can give to an affiliate. In my experience in internet marketing I received very little to no help. I often times felt frustrated and it felt like I was going no where fast.

Instead of making money, I was losing it. So my next step was to quit. If I had a helping upline I would have definitely stayed. When I joined SFI, I felt like I won the lottery. I found the help I needed to succedd.

Being a great Sponsor teaches your downline great Duplication. Continue to help your affiliates and soon you will be reaping the rewards!

Ultimately it is up to fellow affiliates to incorporate or not incorporate the hints, suggestions, or success/challenge stories you share.

Some affiliates find the amount of emails, TeamMail messages, Forum SFI, and even Stream posts too much so for these affiliates - they may feel that your assistance/support is too much.

Ask your downline members - straight out, what they hope to receive from you, ask what they want to achieve with SFI at their side and custom fit your assistance to what affiliates give feed-back on.

You will never know if what you do is too little or too much - that is until you directly ask your downline affiliates where you may assist.

I think you have to try to be reasonable when you're helping your team. Try to set limits. That's my advice because, oh man, I learned the hard way.

Oxymoron: I am one of one of the worst kind of a giver. I give of myself, I give from myself. I have given my last money to people whom I thought needed it more when I needed it. I give nice things to both nice and ungrateful people because I love to give and it feels great.

When it comes to helping people, well, tell me what I can do. I'll find a way to help you...and then some. Hey, if I help you once, that's good enough for me, I will help you for life. Get me out of bed at 3:11 a.m., it will be alright. What do you need?

I have tried to have limits. My problem? I care too much. I want the very best for everyone.

In SFI I get to help people so I love that. Someone on my team needed help, I helped and the "help nightmare" just skyrocketed from there. I didn't mind at first, I was helping. I very much minded that my team member ignored my guidance and refused to do anything once I "more guided, less helped."

In my case, helping was doing (for.)

Once I stopped helping the team member 50 million times a week and I started guiding him more, well, "they" stopped working and responding. Just dropped off like a dead leaf falls off of a tree, never to show up again. Despite my trying to bring the team member back, nothing worked anymore.

I was surprised "they" never offered to give me their password so I could log in, earn their own VP. :-)

I always guide from the beginning but now, when I help, I start guiding more and helping less (for myself, doing less for my team member.) It makes them learn more by doing it and it saves me from being a worse doormat. (Hey! I'm working on it.)

I think, looking back on it when I was asked for help, given that I helped my team member way too much (frankly, "up the wazoo"), what would've worked was 50-50. Half help, half guidance to start, then wean "them" off of the help because I was doing it for the team member. Now, I help, I help you to teach them and if they're trying.

It was a long road but I learned from it. I hope I have helped you somehow.

As a sponsor/Team Leader, one of your primary goals is to produce active and dedicated members to help build your team and, of course, your income. This can only be done by your constant communications with them. These communications provide assistance to them, and will consist of your pointing them in the right direction from time to time.

Stay on course, Emma, and provide them with what they need ...

It could mean for your less active PSAs and CSAs, providing them with incentives to help motivate them into greater action. Or, it could mean providing them with information on a particular question they may ask.

Point is, you should provide them with what you feel they need, or what they may request from you (within reason, of course) that will help you to accomplish your ultimate goals as a sponsor, co-sponsor and/or Team Leader.

Now, Emma, you must decide for yourself what is too much!

Essentially: no. It's like true love. True love can never be 'spoiled rotten'.
Specifically: yes. If you do all their thinking, asking questions, and 'work' they won't learn how to do it themselves. Each affiliate needs to learn how to inspire, motivate, discipline their time, activities, and actions. If they don't learn how to do this for themselves how are they going to lead their team?
There is always the option of focusing more on TripleClicks until they're more confident in their team leading skills.

Remember: there is always more than one way of getting things done. Be yourself and find your style. Don't concern yourself on what others think of you. Rather focus on being the kind of person that will inspire others to follow in your footsteps.

Hi, I personally do not think that there is no such thing like "helping too much".

It is actually our responsibility to train our down line members as much as possible so that they can duplicate us and train their downlines.

At the beginning when an affiliate joins as our downline, they do not have much idea of "what and how to" for most of the areas in SFI. At this point we should try and explain them as much we know, it is always better if we can provide them with some video or screen guide sort of demo. This will make them comfortable to understand the program.

But we should not start doing the things that our downline was supposed to do. This will instead create problem for us going forward.

There actually is such a thing, to put it frankly.

You can help an affiliate for so long until they expect you to carry their weight. We as affiliates and team leaders have to take responsibility for building our businesses and strengthening our teams. Having another affiliate from our team put their burden on our shoulder is very stressful and can throw a wrench in our plans.

My mother always said to help those who help themselves. For the affiliates on your team who want to be independent but need a little guidance, be for them whenever you can. But for the ones who just wants you to pick up the slack, cut them loose!
