I think the straight answer here is that you don't encourage them, because strictly by asking them to set up a standing order you are asking them to pay you. It's perfectly acceptable to point out that there are huge advantages to maintaining EA status, and that can be achieved by purchasing items from the shop, if they feel they can manage it. You will find a number of affiliates are quite happy not to maintain their EA status every month in favour of building a more stable structure to their business.
