It makes your team members feel more like part of a team than simple one-on-one dialogue with you as their team leader. Also, you never know what ideas your team will come up with. It may be that one of your team knows a lot more on a given subject than you do, and being able to share that with other team members may help them in ways that you cannot.
As for the second question, you first need to think about logistics. If your team is spread around the world, a group chat in Skype (or other similar chat program) may be the best way to get it done. If your budget allows, you might consider a webinar program. If you have a local group, you could arrange to meet at a coffee shop, hotel cafe, or similar venue on a regular basis (be prepared to buy the coffee).
Try to make the meeting (or virtual meeting) as informal as possible, and try to get everyone involved in the discussion, encouraging input from everyone, and have a list of ideas of your own ready to discuss, in case you need to kick start the conversation. Once things get started, assume the role of moderator, guiding the discussion and making sure you stay on topic. Make sure the group come up with an agreed plan of action as a result of the discussion, then follow up on the plan.
Remember, the best leaders are those who are able to motivate and inspire others, and there are few things in business that will motivate a person more than having one of their original ideas put into action by their sponsor/mentor, especially if they are rewarded for it.
