In my opinion, this would be an effort on not just the affiliate's part but also on the ECA's.
If ECA's bring the prices down to a level that is very competitive and in the buyers interest, then it becomes a lot easier to attract buyers.
Attractive and accurate description of products are very important, because at the end of the day it is very often the affiliate who advertises the item that gets the first approval or disapproval of the item from the buyer.
If shipping is free it normally makes the price of the item higher, this can easily be explained to prospective buyers.....like for example asking them, if they can buy it cheaper in other sites how much does it cost them for the shipping?.....You will often find that after adding the shipping cost the prices can change quite an amount .
Shipping often takes quite long, this should be explained to buyers that it is beyond your control and that most free shipping sites anyway does take some time.....it is not something that only happens in TripleClicks.....then if items arrive earlier than buyer expected it is a bonus and you have happier customers.
Buying items yourself and then showing others is another way that I find an advantage.
Often people like to see items before purchasing....so if you can invest in personal purchases it helps you and it could become a future conversation point to attract other buyers.
Especially as the holiday season is so close we need to take into account that people will want their items to arrive in time......so it is up to each affiliate to check shipping times and tell buyers to check shipping times.....
Customer service from ECA's and even affiliates can make a big difference..often people will pay a bit more when they find good customer service, than buy cheaper from an ECA with bad customer service....
