The best places to recruit affiliates face-to-face are places where you feel the most comfortable because then you know the types of people around there well enough to have a chance to recruit. For me, I tend to take in events at coffee houses and bars that have "pop-up" stores in them--there, you can generally find relaxed people, often enough those who have products to sell. After I help them build an ECA store, it's a short trip to getting those people to sign up for SFI because they can broaden their ability to earn commissions.
Other people will undoubtedly have their own favorite places, like farmer's markets, flea markets, arts and crafts fairs, and so on. It all depends on what crowd you understand best.
