Email, telephone, word of mouth, and direct mail still are very plausible ways of promotion. It may be necessary to weed out any prospects that are homophobic or worried about someone getting their personal information. Trust me, they already know or know where to look if they wanted to find out.
That said, if someone doesn't understand how it all works just explain it in layman's terms.
