I think you should never be reliant on anyone else for your own success. This is your business and your responsibility. If you are committed and passionate about building a successful business you will be keen to learn. You will be eager to apply what you learn in order to move onwards and upwards. It is nice to have the support of someone more experienced who is willing to share their knowledge but this cannot be taken for granted.
