I must admit that I have not yet needed to translate whilst using SFI Instant Messaging. All of my messages so far have been in English regardless of where the sender came from.
I have found that most people from non English speaking backgrounds, have a basic knowledge of English and thus translation is not needed. In saying that, if I did need to use this tool, this is what I would do:
I would have 2 browser windows open. One browser window would be open to Google Translate. I would then copy the message from SFIIM and paste it into Google Translate. I could then compose my reply in the same way and paste it into SFIIM.
There may be an easier way to do this but I am sure most of us are very familiar with copy and paste – it is a simple task and it is quick.
