I really like your question here. The answer to whether a person should become a team leader before they have a team could be yes or might be no dependent upon the person's particular situation.
Scenario #1. If a person is in a situation where they have no money to invest or don't want to invest then the answer might seem to be NO. Since money is tight the available points will also be scarce and it will be difficult enough simply remaining as EA/EA2.
Scenario #2. In this instance the affiliate can afford to spend some money each month so they have a Standing order of at least 1500 VP for a Fast Track badge. The EA status will be earned automatically from the 1500 SVP so certainly that individual should strive to be a Team Leader. They might not have a team yet but becoming a team leader will draw a team, especially of second home CSAs. (To reach BTL, a minimum of 2000 SVP are required so the person would have to buy something worth another 500 VP over the 1500 SO and that could well be for PSAs to go which swiftly will build a team. So in this example the answer to your question is an emphatic YES!
Those are the two possible scenarios and were I to leave this AskSC answer submission like this, I might end up having one of the most popular answers. But I can't leave it at this because I would be doing you a disservice. I will continue with the unpopular part of the answer because that will really be of the most value to all.
In scenario #1 you might have noticed that I didn't say was 'No', I said it 'might seem to be NO'. There is a huge difference because in fact, the answer to scenario #1 really should be yes too.
People who don't invest in themselves here are severely limiting the growth of their business. Mr Gery and corporate level have very good reasons why they must keep the options of SFI being free open and I truly respect him for holding so staunchly to his guns. But buy exercising that free option, a person is pointing Gery's guns at their own feet and pulling the triggers.
Optimism breeds excitement and that's what happens when one invests and sees explosive growth. Conversely, being frugal to the point of buying T-Credits in lots of 1 is the example one lays down for duplication. Therefore only one of the eager team leader's PSAs will most likely produce more revenue than 10 of the PSA's developed by the timid or the frugal affiliate that stays doggedly at EA or EA2. How long can a person that experiences sluggish growth at best remain interested in continuing?
You often see the term transfer buying bandied about here and that concept should be used MUCH more. Who is so poor that they can't buy laundry soap or dish detergent? What has the grocery store that you buy those from EVER done for you? Buying those things that you would've bought anyways could make the difference in whether your Team leader career with SFI is a going concern or if your EA status spending nothing is actually getting you nowhere - and not very fast either.
So in conclusion Waleed, my answer to your question is yes. A person should strive to be a team leader right from the get go. They should set Standing Orders in the amount of 2000 VP and start grabbing for the rings, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum!
