It is part of a much larger group with the same name: the Alibaba Group states its mission as “to make it easy to do business anywhere. The company is the largest online and mobile commerce company in the world in terms of gross merchandise volume… The company provides the fundamental technology infrastructure and marketing reach to help businesses leverage the power of the Internet…”
The group is made up of 8 different independent business units one of which being alibaba.com
It is as if we had here, in the SFI Group, SFI.com, TripleClicks.com, TripleClicksDirect.com, Pricebenders.com, EagerZebra.com, TCMusic.com, Wave3.com, and SFIPPA.com. Such a hypothesis may neither be farfetched nor too far from in the future, as the SFI Group grows steadily.
Alibaba.com identifies itself as China’s largest global online wholesale platform for small businesses.
From the above, it is clear that TripleClicks.com and Alibaba.com have different approaches to e-commerce and the businesses that are active in them are also somewhat different.
TripleClicks.com aims at individual customers, while businesses in Alibaba.com target resellers.
Your question then is how to interest these small businesses to join Tripleclicks as ECAs.
There are two potentially effective approaches to be successful with your idea.
One is to partner with other TripleClicks ECAs to contact businesses listed with Alibaba.com and offer them to be their resellers through Tripleclicks using our sales force of TripleClicks members, and SFI affiliates. To succeed and be profitable, this group of ECAs should be fully familiar with TripleClicks rules of business and negotiate, accordingly, representation and sales contracts with the businesses listed with Alibaba.com, so that they can provide value to TripleClicks customers and make a profit at the same time.
The second approach is to convince some of the businesses listed with Alibaba.com to open up to diversifying their sales strategy to include individual consumers. Hence, each of those businesses would have a retail department that would list with TripleClicks, according to TripleClicks rules.
In this second approach, your role and those ECAs with whom you may be working would be the beneficiary of such additions to TripleClicks, exactly like any other ECA referral we make.
What you might want to do right away is to use the East Asia Region and China Country Sub-Forums, share your ideas and some of the suggestions in these Ask SC answers. I do not know the details of these sub-forums are they do not appear on my menu, because I am not in that region
