Truthfully, the only thing I've ever been able to do is to continue to try and keep the lines of communication open.
If one of my PSA's suddenly 'disappears' I will start out with an E-Card and ask if everything is ok, if there is anything I can do - that type of message.
When this happens I am truly concerned about them - is there a family crisis? an illness? has there been an accident? I don't ask to be nosy, but because I am worried.
If I don't hear back (which almost always happens) I will send another E-Card or two - light and friendly - something like "hey, where did you go? We miss you!" or "Please don't leave". I always offer to help in any way I can.
If I still haven't heard from him or her, I continue to send the newsletters and group emails to these folks, but by then they are usually done, at least for a while. Whether they decided to quit or are taking a break, I try to keep the communication going and remain hopeful that they will return.
I will also send a note, either email or E-Card, if they are about to expire and let them know this is happening.
Sometimes, they come back. Sometimes they don't, but this is really all we can do.
