The real value though is not the ledger entry or even the final total of them. The real value is knowledge you gain IF you read the books as you fill the shelf.
They should Learn something of value (or have fun in the case of playing games with Zack the Eager Zebra) as they earn each Action-VersaPoint. Otherwise they are squandering the opportunity and cheating themselves for short-term point-gain leading to long-term pain of missed opportunity.
It is far better to work for long-term gain even if it is a short-term pain. Reading and learning gets less painful and becomes more joyful as you fill your library with knowledge.
