Can turn out fine for you,but also can turn out to be bad decision.
What do I mean by that?
I can agree on that when the new affiliate comes to SFI that can be not-so-well informed about the whole thing,how it goes,how it works...and stuff like that.It can be pretty overwhelming to them to "take" the who thing all at once.In situation like that they may need some kind of push to do some things,even they don't completely understand why.
So,offering them something as motivation (would that be a DVD or something else),in the light of previously said,can do the thing.They may listen to you,in order to get present from you.
On the other hand,your affiliates will do it,without knowing why exactly are they doing it and what is the importance of standing order to them and the whole business.
So,as a "first aid" I agree to put some kind of reward for certain actions (I mean,if you can afford it).Putting a standard order is certainly one of them.
Maybe even better "trick" would be not to tell them about the present,but after they do something valuable (e.g. standing order),then to give them a gift!Imagine how would they feel then?Full of pleasant surprise,right?
But what I see as a solution on the long run is to put some more efforts to explain them HOW exactly SFI works.They need to understand Compensation Chart totally.Show them how to earn,teach them all the trick and tips,help them develop their business.
When they truly understand mechanism of making profits in SFI - they will need presents no more.
