Being a Team Leader sooner or later, to me, really depends on certain circumstances that would justify it. While we all have the tendency to be enthusiastic to achieve a prestigious rank in the SFI organization, we must examine the very purpose for which that rank or position in the hierarchy of the organization would serve.
Going through our training lessons, we were admonished that growing a business with SFI is not a sprint or a race. We need not go so fast. Our business must develop or evolve naturally with the basic foundations in place relative to, say, men, money, method and machines. These management concepts would require of us to study and understand how SFI works, its vision of the future, its policies and plans, the support resources it provides, its program of incentives and rewards, marketing strategies, etc. At this learning stage also requires of us to cultivate the attitude of patience, perseverance, even resiliency and determination, not to give up even in the wake of natural calamities. Most importantly, I believe, honest business ethics should prevail over all aspects.
These are the areas of duplication that each of us must honestly discern and, or build capability on in order to proceed with the business. When the learning process would have already built in us the confidence of pursuing growth and success in this business, then one can aspire to seek leadership positions in a higher level.
If as Team Leader, and through your own evaluation, your PSAs have demonstrated by actual performance on these capabilities, skills and attitudes, then by all means encourage them to go beyond EA.
However, I would emphasize, the pitfalls of leadership without an actual Team organization, ie. at least the recommended three to five active EA2s to support. To my mind, having an active Team should be the measure of, and a proud achievement for, one to enjoy the fruits of the new status. He must deserve it as a responsibility to reflect the true image of leadership.—
