I would tell them:
Do tell me your situation, goals & how much time &/or money you are willing to put towards building your business. You can go the free way, but, it would take a lot of work & time to build.
Investing small amounts each month in your business is a lot quicker and much more effective. (However, there is no compulsion to do so at any time) As they say, "You reap what you sow". Fortunately, with this business even small investments bring forth big results.
The difference between the two scenarios is simple. Going the free way, would be a long, tedious, painful way to go and the end result may not be what you are wanting it to be. It's somewhat like trying to hammer a nail in a wall with your bare hands...will take a long time to do (if you do manage to accomplish it), would be a lot of work, painful and maybe even a bit bloody.
However, if you decide to go along with the SO - it would be like trying to hammer a nail in the wall with a hammer - 100% guaranteed results, quick, comparatively effortless and efficient.
I leave it for you to decide which way you wish to go. :)
