I pick a banner and I put it on as many Safelists as I can. Safelists have a tracking in place and you can see how many times the banner is being displayed and then it shows how many times that it is clicked on or opened.
It is also important to use the key code on the other types of ads. Then the banners that are not getting any or little response you might consider changing to a different banner.
Of course this is not going to happened over night. Some might look at the banner and then think about it for some time before making a making up their mind to do something.
