Here is my suggestion on giving feedback (positive, constructive criticism).
1. Use the Feedback Sandwich method.
- You start off by focusing on the strengths—what you like about what he is doing.
- Then, you provide the feedback on areas that needs improvement.
- Lastly, you round off the feedback with (a) a reiteration of the positive comments you gave at the beginning and (b) the positive results that can be expected if your feedback on the things that need improvement is acted upon.
2. Focus on the issue that needs improvement and not on person nor his personality. Discuss the issues and never on the way he behaves.
3. Be Specific on your Feedback, do not make vague and feedbacks.
4. Give feedback on issues that can be acted upon by your downlines not on the things that are beyond them or not on their power to do.
5. Give recommendation or suggestion what to do rather than just pointing out what is wrong. And be sure that you know what you are suggesting and you are doing it yourself. Give actual example.
