Understand that you are not talking to an employee. You have NO authority over your affiliate. If you understand that before sending the email, you are not as likely to come across in a negative way.
If you think you have spotted a weakness, approach them with something like: "Hi John, I was thinking about how I do ......and I was wondering if you have ever tried this?"
This way you are not causing a wall to go up, rather, you are creating an OPTION that will be their choice.
