First and foremost, the daily To Dos. If you aren't doing the daily tasks, including entering the games and the survey responses, then there is your problem right there. You have to do these, otherwise that is wasted, free VP. Log in every day and do these. Then, the VP Ledger. Click on your VP Ledger (accessible from the Hot Spots tab), and go down the list and see which one time actions, if any, you have available to you. Complete those, and then start working on PRMs.
Personally Referred Members are people you have signed up to TripleClicks. These are a great source of income. Make your own business cards or flyers with your gateways for TripleClicks on them. Use a few different ones depending on where you are advertising. At the mall or some store? Use this one http://www.tripleclicks.com/YOURSFIID/pbgw for the pricebenders auctions. At a music store? Use the one for the song of the month contest. Hand them out to people you see and give them a small amount of information about what it is. Leave them on people's cars in the parking lot. Post them on public bulletin boards at laundromats. Advertise every where you can. Once you have a few PRMs that are purchasing a few items every month, or several packs of TCredits, you will have loads of sales VersaPoints rolling in.
After you have that down, start working on PSAs. Talk to friends and family members, co workers, neighbors, whoever you can that you think might be wanting to make a little extra money. Sign them up through your gateway and show them the basics. Once your "warm marketing" choices are used up, try posting ads, just like you did for PRMs. Go to colleges in your area, laundromats, bars, shopping areas, etc., and hand out xcards, flyers, business cards, whatever you can. Don't be afraid to stop and talk to people about what you are handing out. If you speak with them they are more likely to check it out.
After you've done all this, not only will you have plenty of VPs, you will also begin to earn commissions to support your online business!
