The most imprtant factor is where and to whom you want to sell a product. If it's Facebook, then you must take into account who your friends are, how old are they, what they are interested in etc... If it's, for instance, some group and page with many members without some specific topic, maybe you should offer them some heavily discounted products that would atract you. Always ask yourself first, would you be interested in if you saw such a product. I think it's also important for you to be familiar with a product you sell, so you could answer potential questions.
Of course, if the group is about, for instance, parenting, you would offer products about child care.
The point is to target your potential customers first and then place the ad where and when you think it's the most appropriate.
